Stormbreaker - Anthony Horowitz

Horowitz, A.(2006) Stormbreaker, Walker Books, UK.

Stormbreaker is the first of four graphic novels adapted by Antony Johnston from Anthony Horowitz's very popular Alex Rider novel series. The artwork was created by Kanako Damerum and Yuzuru Takasaki.

Alex Rider is a 14 year old teenage spy agent who starts working for MI6 after the death of his only remaining relative, Uncle Ian Rider. Alex is orphaned as a young boy and his Uncle Ian looks after him with the help of his housekeeper, Jack. Jack and Alex are unaware that Ian is in fact a secret agent spy, not the banker they believe him to be, image accessed 5/4/13

After Ian is murdered, Alex is propositioned to work for MI6 to continue his Uncle's secret agent work. While initially very reluctant, his arm is twisted because they threaten to send Jack away as her visa has expired. Fearing losing his only remaining family, Jack agrees to work as a MI6 agent.

Armed with inconspicuous teenage gadgets, such as zit cream which also double as weapons, Alex takes on an assignment to work out what Stormbreaker is and how to stop it!

This action packed graphic novel was made into a movie and a video game was also released. Further graphic novels by Anthony Horowitz in the Alex Rider series include, Point Blanc, Skeleton Key and Eagle Strike. All of these graphic novels are on the Premier's Reading Challenge Year 6-9.
